Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone is an Indian actress who mainly works in Hindi films. She was born on January 5, 1986. Deepika is considered as one of the highest-paid actresses in India. She has received three Filmfare Awards for her outstanding performances. She is also listed as one of the most popular personalities in the country. In 2018, Time magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Recently, in 2022, she was awarded the Time100 Impact Award.

Padukone was born in Copenhagen and raised in Bangalore. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a former professional badminton player. As a teenager, she competed in national-level badminton championships. However, she decided to pursue a career in modeling and soon received offers to act in films. In 2006, she made her acting debut as the lead character in the Kannada film Aishwarya. Her first Bollywood release was the romance Om Shanti Om (2007), in which she played a dual role opposite Shah Rukh Khan. This film won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Padukone received critical acclaim for her role in the romance Love Aaj Kal (2009). However, she faced a brief setback after that.

Deepika Padukone’s career took a turn after the release of the romantic comedy “Cocktail” in 2012. She continued to gain success in the film industry with leading roles in popular romantic comedies such as “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Chennai Express” in 2013, the heist comedy “Happy New Year” in 2014, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period dramas “Bajirao Mastani” in 2015 and “Padmaavat” in 2018. Her career also included a role in the Hollywood action film “XXX: Return of Xander Cage” in 2017. She received critical acclaim for her performances in Bhansali’s “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” in 2013 and “Piku” in 2015, winning two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. After a short break, Padukone returned to acting with starring roles in the top-grossing action films of 2023, “Pathaan” and “Jawan“, with a brief role in the latter. Deepika has sparked excitement among her fans with sneak peeks of her upcoming films such as Singham Again, Fighter, and Kalki 2898 AD, following her powerful start in 2023 with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan.

Padukone is the founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, which aims to raise awareness about mental health issues in India. She is vocal about issues such as feminism and depression. She also participates in stage shows, writes columns for a newspaper, designs her own line of clothing for women, and is a prominent celebrity endorser for various brands and products. Apart from this, she has also invested in startups and runs a self-care brand. Padukone is married to her frequent co-star Ranveer Singh, who is also a successful actor in Bollywood. The couple has appeared in several films together, including “Ram-Leela” and “Bajirao Mastani”.
